Appearance
The phone has a glass back and a plastic frame and is available in two gorgeous colors: Starry Blue and Black. Huawei has always been on the cutting edge of smartphone design, and the nova 9 is no exception. This one has an extremely slim profile with a clean and modern look. It’s ultra-thin (just 7.77mm) and light (only 175g), the chassis is exceptionally easy to pick up and use one-handed, especially if one has smaller hands.
The phone’s controls are on the right side, with the power button also serving as the fingerprint scanner. The USB Type-C connector, speaker grille, and SIM tray are all located on the phone’s bottom. Some care needs to be taken in terms that the phone is not waterproof so we would suggest you not use it near water bodies.
Camera and display
The rear camera module on the nova 9 is big and vertically oriented. It sticks out a few millimeters from the back of the camera and houses four cameras as well as an LED flash. The macro lens allows you to snap some sharp and detailed photos. Need to take pictures at night? Don’t worry there is a night mode to assist you with that. There’s also a 32-megapixel punch-hole camera in the display with an aperture of f/2.0. The selfie camera is capable of capturing 720p video at 240fps, while the rear camera can record 720p video at up to 960fps. Both cameras are capable of shooting in 4K, while the latter also supports slow-motion and time-lapse features. This sounds like we need to call out all the creative video content creators out there!
The Huawei nova 9 does is the perfect fit for mobile photography and gaming enthusiasts. The Huawei nova 9 sports a curved OLED display with a 1080 x 2340 resolution. The panel offers all of the bells and whistles you’d expect, such as a 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color reproduction, P3 color gamut coverage, Delta E1 color accuracy, and HDR10 is also supported. At the top, there’s a cut-out for the selfie camera. The curved display provides a wide and clear view of graphics. But it doesn’t end there, the display on the nova 9 understands what you’re doing and adjusts the refresh rate to save power based on the situation. If you’re just viewing Netflix, for example, the phone will lock the refresh rate to 60Hz (because going over doesn’t really help). When you scroll around the phone’s UI, though, it returns to 120Hz. Now that is a Smartphone!
Processor
The nova 9 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G processor with an Adreno 642L GPU, earning it the title “super smartphone.”. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage It also comes with a 4,300mAh battery and a scorching 66W SuperCharge rapid charging which allows it to be charged within 4 minutes, and it runs on EMUI 12. Which gives you around 15 hours of battery life which varies as per your use.
Applications
As far as the apps go, Gmail is handled via the default email app. YouTube can be seen using your regular browser. You can also utilize Huawei’s Quick App Center as an alternative. The browser provides essentially the same experience, but it is much faster and executes far better. You also don’t have to worry about browser tabs. Other Google services, such as Calendar, Keep, and Maps, are also compatible.
Netflix can be downloaded through Petal Search or APK Pure as it does not support certain Google services like play store. The most recent Netflix app is functional, but only in SD resolution.
